I'm off to the NAMM show in L.A. (the National Association of Music Manufacturers annual show is one of the 'mecca' events of the music industry with as many as 80,000 people attending in four days) next week.
I'm very excited as I will be having 8 solo performances
demonstrating the new state of the art Live Looping device,
the LOOPERLATIVE.
Designed by Bob Amstadt, the Looperlative will get it's world premiere
from my good friend, UK bassist Steve Lawson and myself in several different shows.
If anyone is heading down there, we will be at booth 1857 in Hall E and I will
be doing solo shows at 1,3 and 5 on Friday and Saturday and 1 and 3 on Sunday).
Bob told us, flatteringly, that he designed the machine after seeing Steve and I perform together at the San Jose Museum of Art on the first Loop Tour with
Michael Manring and Andre LaFosse a few years ago.
He has been amazing and has incorporated every single idea that Steve and I have given him into the machine, which sports 8 separate 48 khz stereo loops that can be played synchronously or asynchronously. I"ve never met someone in a music company who seems so eager to serve the community
that this product will appeal to.
Additionally, there is an ethernet port built into the device so that people can download upgrades to the unit from the web (and also up and download loops to a computer network).
I feel humbled and excited to be on the cusp of a new technology that will
keep changing the way music is made in live situations.
